Evans the Death "Telling Lies" (new track)

We'll have to wait till April 3rd for the self titled debut from Evans the Death via Slumberland Records. Although the first single "Telling Lies" b/w "Morning Voice" doesn't get released until March 6th you can give it a listen right now below. The band took it's name from the Undertaker who dreams of his childhood in Dylan Thomas' 'Under Milk Wood'. It seems this young five piece dreams instead of wonderful noise and clever lyrics. With company like The Kinks, Frank Zappa, and The Decemberists also drawing inspiration from the very same work of prose Evans the Death are certainly off to an excellent start.

Today EMA released a new single and video for "Take One Two"(above). EMA has this to say about the video

“This footage comes from a South Dakota trailer park in the mid-90s, and features a small group of freaks and misfits who seem to be having the time of their lives. Dressing up, hanging out, making up funny skits, and lots of laughing. When I look back now at our fresh young faces (yes that is me with the short dark hair and cat-eye liner), I'm amazed at how simply happy we all look. This is especially remarkable as I know what was going on outside those plywood walls: getting called names, shoved into lockers, and threatening to get our asses kicked for being queer or punk or just plain weird.

But despite all that, there is a joy, strength and self-acceptance in our faces that I find inspiring and wanted to pass on. I'm offering the proceeds of this song to an anti-bullying non-profit started by a 15-yr-old girl in Long Island who was a victim of bullying for 7 years before switching schools. It's called The Jamie Isaacs Foundation (www.jamieisaacsfoundation.org) and it works to bring youth advocates into schools and pass anti-bullying legislation."

This Valentine's Day get ready to fall in love with Young Magic. The three piece band that now calls New York home will release their debut album 'Melt' on February 14th via Carpark Records. The forthcoming album has been on repeat around here for the last week and is our new favourite thing. The album is titled 'Silent Hour/Golden Mile' and is to be released on March 20th on Warp Records. Rossen is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. In other words Daniel Rossen is the balls. Based on the strength of the first two releases (find "Saint Nothing" here) the highly anticipated new album is sure to be a gooder. We are psyched!

Wild Flag released their self-titled debut album late last year (via Wichita Recordings) to much, well deserved, critical acclaim. The quartet consists of Carrie Brownstein (guit/vox), Mary Timony (guit/vox), Rebecca Cole (keys/vox), and Janet Weiss (kit/vox). Although all members have known each other through different bands and tours for sometime -you may remember Brownstein and Weiss from their Sleater Kinney days (and Brownstein more recently from IFC's Portlandia)- Brownstein explains "I think we realised that we could be greater than the sum of our parts, not four disparate puzzle pieces trying to make sense of each other, but a cohesive and dynamic whole." Deer Tick released a new album and toured the shit out of it last year, before that it was Deervana (Deer Tick playing Nirvana songs), and prior to that his other band Middle Brother released an album and played several festivals. Now he's decided to put together another collaborative project this one titled Diamond Rugs and consisting of Robbie Crowell (Deer Tick), Ian Saint Pé (The Black Lips), Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), Hardy Morris (Dead Confederate) Bryan Dufresne (Six Finger Satellite), and of course McCauley himself. Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Daniel Rossen is set to release his debut solo album 'Silent Hour/Golden Mile' on March 20th via Warp Records. If you haven't started listening to the "Saint Nothing" (below) yet and/or don't recognize the name he is one of the major forces behind Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles. Rossen recorded and performed almost all of the album himself around different rehearsal rooms and small spaces around New York. This is one release that is surely not to be missed.
